IXI Danza’s Program for August: Supplement

Dear friends,

1. “Red and White” Milonga (5 August)

In conjunction with the Singapore National Day, we will be holding our first themed Milonga of IXI Danza. For the milonga on 5 August, come in your best red & white garbs. Janet will be preparing some special and colourful treats!

2. Visit of “Gato Valdez and Andrea Monti” in September

The Argentinian teachers Gato and Andrea will be visiting Singapore at the end August. They will be holding a number of workshops during that weekend. Please check back at :tangosg: for the detailed program.

IXI Danza’s Program for August

Dear friends,

Here is IXI Danza’s program for August. Bookmark our :ixical:

1. :ixiclasses:

The next round of classes will commence in the week starting Monday 24 July. Registrations will close on Saturday 22 July. Please register early so that we can ensure gender balance. In August, apart from the regular beginners series, we will hold two special classes on close-embrace dancing (Saturday 12/8) and techniques for barridas (Saturday 26/8). Read on for more details.

Beginners 1: every Saturday 1-3pm for 4 weeks (29/7, 5/8, 12/8, 19/8), starting Saturday 29 July.

Beginners 2: (no classes during the National Day week)
a) every Monday 8-10pm for 4 weeks (24/7, 31/7, 14/8, 21/8), starting Monday 24 July.
b) every Wednesday 8-10pm for 4 weeks (26/7, 2/8, 16/8, 23/8), starting Wednesday 26 July.

** Note that priority will be given to current students in Beginners 1 classes.

Introduction to Close-embrace
- Instructors: Louis/Janet
- Time: Saturday 12 August
- Session 1 (3.30-4.30pm): Types of embrace and how to move in unison
- Session 2 (5-6pm): Typical close-embrace steps

Barridas
- Instructors: Jeremy/Henny
- Time: Saturday 26 August
- Session 1 (1-2pm): Types of Barridas(Leg Sweep) where one partner’s foot sweeps the other’s foot and places it without losing contact. Barridas can be done from either the outside or the inside of the foot of the
receiving party.
- Session 2 (2.30-3.30pm): Incorporating Barridas into common dance steps - variation of Barridas and how to execute and play with the music.

Prerequisites: Completion of our Beginners 2 classes, or the equivalent of 6 months’ dance experience.
Cost: $20 per session or $15 per session for students of IXI Danza (taken classes within the past 6 months).

2. :ixisocial:

Milonga: Saturdays 5 and 19 August, 9pm-2am. Mark your calendar!

Tea Dance: Sundays 13, 27 August, 1pm-5pm. Dance in a relaxed atmosphere and have tea with your fellow Tango friends before heading back to work on Monday!

Practica: come and join the hard-working groups every Tuesday and Thursday, 8pm-11pm. This is a good chance to brush up your leading/following skills in preparation for the Milonga. Our instructors are always on hand if you have questions.
